Conversation Practice
This is a plan that I wrote for a student that just needed some confidence!
Lesson plan
Topic: Conversation Scenarios
Time: 1 hour
Objective: The student needs to be able to successfully demonstrate their ability to generate conversation in different scenarios.
Scenarios:
You are with your best friend; Tina, she can't find her wallet anywhere. Both of you have spent the entire afternoon searching through her apartment unsuccessfully. Later that evening you return home, as you reach into your pocket to retrieve your keys, you discover that Tina's wallet has accidentally been placed in your pocket. Can you phone Tina and let her know that you have found her wallet.
It's late on Friday night, the phone rings, it's your best friend. She wants you to go with her to a party tonight. You are too tired to go out, make up an excuse as to why you cannot go.
You are walking around Oxford Street in London when you are approached by a tourist, they want to know the directions to find the nearest tourist office. Although you are not sure, you proceed to give them directions. They thank you and disappear around the corner. It's been 20 minutes, as you turn the corner you see them approaching you again, embarrassed apologise to them for getting the directions wrong.
You have made a job application for a senior position. You lied about your work experience in London. The HR manager wants to know more about your trip, you are sweating with panic as she questions you. Try and change the subject every time she questions you.
You are at work, your boss has asked you to help him with a project. It involves some research online. The project name is DTG, it's been 25 minutes and the boss is approaches your desk. You had not noticed that the website page on your computer screen was that of a dating website called DTG online dating. The boss is very disappointed that you are using his time to look through private websites, explain to him how the error occurred and how sorry you are.
You are test driving a new car, the garage owner waits patiently for your return. It's barely 10 minutes when you return the car, the owner points out a scratch to you on the bonnet of the car, explain that it's not your fault and that it must have been there before you took the car on a test drive.
Summary: this lesson has been designed to make you think in a second language, the teacher will be monitoring your sentence constructions, use of tenses and your pronunciation.
